Black holes, in my view, is extremely dense ball of gravity (from theist point of view gravity can be designated as the supra causal state of consciousness). The speed of force of attraction or say gravitational force is much more higher at black holes than the speed of light therefore light and all other fundamental forces of quantum mechanics can not escape from a black hole and get unified with the gravitational force (a state known as quantum gravity in modern science).

Miss Mentor,
That was awesome!
Did you see the movie "Contact", with Jodie Foster? I believe they depicted Jodie Foster traveling through a worm hole in that film.

[...] With nothing left to burn, the star begins to collapses into itself. The massive ones can form black holes, and the ones a bit smaller (think 5-8 times the size of our sun) [...]

Lisa:

Trying to find the pattern to your posts is a black hole in my mind. :-) You have an eclectic set of interests that I find fascinating. Very good explanation of black holes.

One of my favorite songs of all time is Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden,

I have always been fascinated by black holes as they pertain to faster than light travel. almost infinite mass translates to a heckuva slingshot effect to anything passing nearby at high speed.

This subject always fascinates me. Have you ever heard of black stars? I read little about it in a magazine.
